Aberdeen is Enriched in History

Aberdeen history tells the story of a city capable of maintaining its standing and history while constantly evolving.  With a population of approximately 200,000, it is Scotland’s third largest city and has become one of the world’s energy capitals in recent years.  Aberdeen’s story dates back beyond recorded history, yet new chapters are being authored as we speak.

For nearly 8,000 years, there have been people living in what is now known as Aberdeen.  History shows that prehistoric settlements were once present in the area between the rivers Don and Dee.  Aberdeen itself won recognition as a “Royal Burgh” from Robert the Bruce in the early fourteenth century.  At that point, it began to grow socially and economically.

You do not need to look hard for signs of the past in Aberdeen.  History is all around you!  The University of Aberdeen opened in 1495 and is still recognized as a top school today.  While the glittering buildings of the past hundred years dominate the landscape, there are still many older structures that bear witness to the city’s long history.

Aberdeen leveraged its status as a Royal Burgh to facilitate its early growth.  In time, it became a major location for commercial fishing and shipbuilding.  The rivers and port led to the creation of a vibrant textile industry, as well.

Interestingly, Aberdeen has continued to thrive even as those industries have fallen on hard times.  The old fishing boats were replaced by deep see fishing operations and now those have even began to disappear.  The shipbuilding industry is not nearly as active as it was in years past and many of the old textile mills that that were once part of the city’s economic backbone have been demolished.

Many cities would crumble under this combination of forces, but not Aberdeen.  History has not always been kind to the city, but it has always found its way.  Today, it is a key player in the world of energy.  The oil industry has replaced the old profit centers and offshore rigs now pump crude from the North Sea where the old boats once patrolled for fish.

The city has also managed to thrive thanks to a growing electronics component.  The old mills have been replaced by modern offices populated by electronics designers and engineers.

Aberdeen’s history stretches over centuries and while signs of the past remain in place, they are supplemented by modern additions that have allowed the area to win the Britain in Bloom competition no less than ten times.

Few cities have demonstrated the kind of adaptability on display in Aberdeen.  History has a way of bringing once proud cities to their knees and fueling the growth of new hot spots.  Aberdeen has stood up to the challenge of change, demonstrating exception resiliency and an instinct for positive change.

If you would like to visit then you can choose from a number of cheap hotels in aberdeen and get any information you need on any hotel in aberdeen.

Hotels of the World

Hotels are meant to be your home away from home. Often, though, especially with the advent of boutique and luxury hotels, they are even more than that, they become experiences in and of themselves.

From art-themed, to book themed, to green and clean to haute cuisine and high fashion, hotels have clung onto every chic and hip meme out there, developing them into posh design concepts which easily attract the curious and smart from all corners of the world to lay down their heads and their dollars for a night’s sleep.

Of course, you’ve got your standard beachside paradises, fully equipped with peace invoking reflecting pools, shabby-chic villas with mosquito netting romantically slung around the beds and organic chocolate covered coffee beans on the pillows; and you’ve got your upscale, metropolitan affairs, architecturally zeitgeisty structures that double as upstanding lessons on high class and elegance as well as those staid, institutional hotels which never go out of style.

But, for those looking for something different, for something a little more off the beaten track, something more adventuresome or creative, there are a host of options out there.

Here’s a look at some of the world’s most unique and unusual hotels.

The Magic Mountain Hotel, in Panguipulli, Chile, at the center of the Huilo Huilo nature reserve, is a hotel in the shape of a  mountain. Water spouts from the top of the mountain, cascadeing down the sides creating a spectacular sight. This is definitely not your ordinary hotel. It’s set in the middle of a forest in beautiful southern Chile; there are hot tubs made out of tree trunks, perched on a wooden deck overlooking the woodlands; and there’s also a nearby golf course. Rooms start at around $170USD per night.

In Sweden, visitors to Jukkaskjarvi can stay in a hotel made out of pure, solid ice. Although there are several ice hotels in the world, this one was the original Ice Hotel; it’s also the world’s largest hotel made out of ice and snow, covering some 5500 square meters. The hotel started out as a small igloo built on the Torne River, as an art exhibit. Some visitors decided to sleep in the igloo and the ice hotel concept was born from there. Today there are several ice hotels all over the world.

The Lighthouse at Harlingen Harbor in the Netherlands, once served to shepherd sailors and ships in the harbor; it was closed in 1998, however, one intrepid individual determined that although the light might be extinguished, the historic structure and landmark itself could still be put to good use. The lighthouse is now a luxurious hotel; guests can sleep in the tower, where the beacon once was, or they can stay in the lifeboat, which now rescues people from the daily grind, rather than the harrowing north seas.

The Franklin Feel the Sound Hotel in Rome is all about music. This place is dedicated to good tunes, good design and modern technology. Located a few blocks away from the Vatican in the Prati quarter, this hotel offers guests all the creature comforts including high quality stereo sound systems and vinyl records.

As a Gold Coast holiday rentals operator, Damian Papworth strives to help tourism. As such he built a search engine for Gold Coast hotels Australia.

Theme Park heaven and natural beauty; both to be found in Florida

Florida is often described as America’s playground and with Orlando at its heart there is certainly plenty to do when it comes to theme park frivolity and fun! Although the Sunshine State offers some of the most spectacular natural sights, such as the Everglades, the Florida Keys and the marvelous Gulf of Mexico coast it is the theme parks of Orlando that draw visitors in their millions.

Ever since the Disney World resort opened its doors in 1971, the region has prospered attracting a series of other theme parks and entertainment options in addition to the Disney offerings. It is certainly the undisputed theme park heaven, offering adults and kids of all ages the opportunity to enjoy an action-packed holiday of a lifetime.

Disney World resort consists of four theme parks and two themed water parks. The first of the parks to open was the Magic Kingdom in 1971 followed 11 years later by Epcot. Disney’s Hollywood Studios opened to a huge fanfare in 1989, and the most recent addition to the Disney family Animal Kingdom threw open its doors in 1998. The themed water parks of Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon offer a superb relaxing alternative and many people intersperse theme park visits with days spent splashing around and topping up their tans. Guests staying on resort get to use the water parks as part of their accommodation deal.

Indeed, there are many different types of accommodation in Orlando and Kissimmee to suit a full range of budgets, from budget motels to luxurious five-star Disney hotels situated at the heart of the resort. Most of the larger off-park hotels offer free shuttle services to the theme parks, but for the ultimate experience many guests choose to stay on resort and get benefits such as early entry to the parks. Universal, has two parks in Orlando and also offers top-notch on-resort accommodation, such as the Hard Rock hotel offering its own range of benefits.

Although the majority of Orlando visitors devote their entire holiday to staying within the vicinity of the theme parks, many holidaymakers choose to combine their break with a few days or longer in one of Florida’s other popular destinations such as the Keys, Miami, Fort Lauderdale, The Everglades or the Gulf Coast. All offer an alternative to the furious theme park pace, and a tranquil taste of the Sunshine State. Whether it’s the natural beauty or the manufactured theme park thrills that appeal, both are in ample supply in the Sunshine State of Florida.

Take a Walk on New York’s Cool Side

Aptly named the city that never sleeps, New York is simply bursting with cultural style and entertainment opportunities galore. Birthplace to a host of pioneering musical movements, including hip hop, punk and disco, and boasting an unparalleled range of unusual activities to pursue, it is hard to find a place exuding the kind of coolness that’s present on the streets of New York City.

As a result, it is possible to find something to excite the senses and stimulate the mind, regardless of when you visit.

For instance, home to the biggest concentration of Chinese people in the Western hemisphere, New York’s Chinatown is a definite must-see. Comprised of a hectic jumble of winding streets and narrow lanes, there is a multitude of experiences to be had there, from the mouth-watering eateries and bustling markets to the unusual shops packed full of authentic knickknacks.

The area also plays host to a number of live events and annual celebrations. The weekly screenings of Chinese movies, the annual Autumn Moon Cultural Festival & Children’s Lantern Parade and the live performances at The Taipei Theater are all highlights.

To satiate your thirst for shopping without breaking the bank, New York’s flea markets are an absolute treasure trove filled with a wealth of one-off antiques, rare records and vintage clothing. For second-hand designer clothing, Hell’s Kitchen Flea Market is the place to go, with over 50 stalls to browse.

Those seeking antique items, on the other hand, will not be left disappointed by the offerings to be found at the Antiques Garage, whilst Green Flea offers up some great homemade jewellery and affordable furniture.

If you’ve worked your way around the city’s art galleries and exhibitions, and have had enough of standing in line for hours at the Museum of Modern Art exhibition, it is well worth heading to Dia:Beacon, located just outside of New York.

Housing an impressive collection of mammoth art pieces, which are generally too big to fit inside most other museums, it is well worth the 80 minute train ride that it takes to get there. Not only that, but with its doors opening out onto the banks of the River Hudson, it is the perfect spot for picnicking, or simply sitting back and admiring the sights.

The city is also home to a plethora of cool restaurants, funky bars and crazy nightclubs, meaning that the time you spend in between visiting attractions and soaking up the culture is never wasted.

Additionally, there is an endless array of New York accommodation options to choose from, including the hip New York City hotels, and secluded self-catering apartments to a range of cheap hostels. Consequently, every taste is catered for in this remarkable city, regardless of whether you have buckets of spare cash to spend or are on a budget!

Living well when you travel to Paris

Finding things do when visiting Paris is not a hard thing to do. The Eifel Tower, The Louvre, Notre Dame Cathedral – all these places people know about without even consulting their guide books. But what about later in the evening when you need a nice place to relax at before the evening and night ahead? When in Paris, you of course have to take a nap together with a nice Calvados to wash the days of walking away. In later years, many very nice hotels have popped up to put the larger chains of hotels to shame when it comes to interior design and decoration. In this article I will give you a list of some of my favorite hotels in Paris.

The Five Hotel can be considered more of a hotel of happening rather than a hotel of design. You not only get to choose what room color fits you the best – such as green, purple, black -  you also have to decide on what type of smell you want to be greeted with once you enter it. The hotel’s broadloom carpets are absolutely drenched in colors – an optical noise of great magnitude. The hotel is located in the middle of the Latin quarters which gives you quite a cultural clash of two worlds; traditional on the outside and hyper modern on the inside. Their address is 3 Rue Flatters, Arrondissement Five.

I can only describe Hotel Amour as one of the coolest hotels in Paris, hands down. This is located in a former brothel that has been spruced up by one of the Costes brothers – famous restaurateurs in Paris. You will not find and TVs, air conditioning or Wi-Fi here. On the other hand you could always plug in you IPod, enjoying the totally freaked out furnishing – different designers have been used for all of the hotel’s rooms. Go for a decent meal in the back garden as well, there are often release parties happening on the terrace. Beware; sometimes your lunch may be interrupted by quite audible moans coming from one of the rooms, which may also be rented for only an afternoon for that matter. The address is 8 Rue de Navarin in Arrondissement Nine.

Christian Lacroix was given free reins here at Hotel Bellechasse, and because he is not one of those strict Yves Saint Laurent types of people, the colors in all of the thirty four rooms completely explode. This is as far away from grey and mundane minimalism as you probably can get. Instead, all the rooms sport different tailor made designs. They all have sort of a bourgeois eighteen hundreds kind of feel to them though. In other words, it all resembles the chique -ness of the left beach that you can view from your window; very chique, very French. Hotel Bellechasse’s adress is 8 Rue de Bellechasse.

Hotel Particulier Montmartre is for those who can afford to get a room at the Ritz, but have the good taste to instead choose a super luxury bed and breakfast. A very bourgeois building with a garden on the hill of Montmartres, re-built into five separate suites. The Finn Mats Haglund has picked out all of the interior furnishing and design. This place is a pure gallery of modern design in itself. You will find items here by artist ranging from Arne Jacobsen to Mies van der Roohe. Private dinners – or Chambre Separe – can also be arranged. The hotel is located at 23 Avenue Junot in the eighteenth Arrondissement.

Robb Stark enjoys traveling to Paris and living well once there. For more information please visit flygbiljetter Paris and restresor.
