Hotels are meant to be your home away from home. Often, though, especially with the advent of boutique and luxury hotels, they are even more than that, they become experiences in and of themselves.
From art-themed, to book themed, to green and clean to haute cuisine and high fashion, hotels have clung onto every chic and hip meme out there, developing them into posh design concepts which easily attract the curious and smart from all corners of the world to lay down their heads and their dollars for a night’s sleep.
Of course, you’ve got your standard beachside paradises, fully equipped with peace invoking reflecting pools, shabby-chic villas with mosquito netting romantically slung around the beds and organic chocolate covered coffee beans on the pillows; and you’ve got your upscale, metropolitan affairs, architecturally zeitgeisty structures that double as upstanding lessons on high class and elegance as well as those staid, institutional hotels which never go out of style.
But, for those looking for something different, for something a little more off the beaten track, something more adventuresome or creative, there are a host of options out there.
Here’s a look at some of the world’s most unique and unusual hotels.
The Magic Mountain Hotel, in Panguipulli, Chile, at the center of the Huilo Huilo nature reserve, is a hotel in the shape of a mountain. Water spouts from the top of the mountain, cascadeing down the sides creating a spectacular sight. This is definitely not your ordinary hotel. It’s set in the middle of a forest in beautiful southern Chile; there are hot tubs made out of tree trunks, perched on a wooden deck overlooking the woodlands; and there’s also a nearby golf course. Rooms start at around $170USD per night.
In Sweden, visitors to Jukkaskjarvi can stay in a hotel made out of pure, solid ice. Although there are several ice hotels in the world, this one was the original Ice Hotel; it’s also the world’s largest hotel made out of ice and snow, covering some 5500 square meters. The hotel started out as a small igloo built on the Torne River, as an art exhibit. Some visitors decided to sleep in the igloo and the ice hotel concept was born from there. Today there are several ice hotels all over the world.
The Lighthouse at Harlingen Harbor in the Netherlands, once served to shepherd sailors and ships in the harbor; it was closed in 1998, however, one intrepid individual determined that although the light might be extinguished, the historic structure and landmark itself could still be put to good use. The lighthouse is now a luxurious hotel; guests can sleep in the tower, where the beacon once was, or they can stay in the lifeboat, which now rescues people from the daily grind, rather than the harrowing north seas.
The Franklin Feel the Sound Hotel in Rome is all about music. This place is dedicated to good tunes, good design and modern technology. Located a few blocks away from the Vatican in the Prati quarter, this hotel offers guests all the creature comforts including high quality stereo sound systems and vinyl records.

The current definition of a limited service hotel is simply a hotel that ‘Omit[s] conventional full service facilities and services such as meeting rooms, swimming pools, business centres and gyms. Customers self-serve and book rooms online at their convenience.’ . For the most part, falls under this standard. The hotel is located in a block of renovated studio apartments, and as such does not have some of the facilities that a larger, full service hotel would have. Our guests do get special rates at a nearby gym and several nearby restaurants but, for better or for worse, we don’t have those facilities attached. This is a pretty popular idea lately; The Days Inn Worldwide, Comfort Inn, and Hampton have all been developing these types of properties for some time now. And, while there have been some bumps in the road, this setup has worked out pretty well so far. In fact it’s worked out so well that we’re now moving to the next step. Automation.
Because we don’t have a 24 hour front desk, if someone were to try and book a last-minute room after the office is closed they wouldn’t get very far before running into some major hurdles. Having management handle these bookings, as well as any check-ins that arrive after the office is closed, can be both stressful and costly. So, in the next few months Nuvo Hotel Suites will be implementing two new services to try and provide better around-the-clock service to our guests. The first is the installation of an automated Check-In booth at our main entrance. This will allow last-minute travellers to book, pay for, and get access to a room at any time of the day. The benefits are obvious; the risks are a bit more ethereal. It’s a little impersonal, and no machine will be able to handle all of the routine problems that tend to crop up. So, to handle the latter we will be employing an excellent call center, based out of Maine, to handle the late night issues. The idea is to improve the quality of service during our ‘off’ hours while at the same time keeping the personal touches and sense of style that’s helped to make us as popular as we’ve become. In the next weeks and months we’ll be diligently monitoring the guest feedback to make sure everything is working the way we’d like it to, but if anyone out there has some comments or experiences to share I’d love to hear from you.

One of the main components of any relaxation, whether it be relaxing in the evening, after a busy weekday or on a vacation in a vacation trip where anything is, without doubt, a sauna. It is believed those who were not in the sauna, he did not feel real life. Of course, this is a matter of taste, but one thing is certain – baths, built on the most cutting-edge criteria of high quality – is a true miracle.
Thus, to date, in principle, no one will turn to surprise a phenomenon that at the same time and in small towns, not only in big cities, are actively improving tourist area. Say, for example, the current will be assessed realistically cheaper than a hotel at the same level in a much more respectable village, and everyone, without exception, services are similar, and quality service The present-day hotels are no longer different from each other, striving to achieve real high levels.
It is clear that for most hotels in major towns is not difficult, because of large capital pulled in, creating a high quality accommodation services. That is, pool, sauna or a sauna, fitness room and so forth – all located directly within the hotel’s residential complex. In medium-sized towns are much nicer to create a separate set of fragments of different objects, not confined to the hotel center. This broadens the customer base that is valuable to any business case, and for consumers, as visitors and residents in a city can make the projects a particular hotel is much more accessible and desirable. For example, offer all kinds of ancillary services – Jacuzzi, bowling, gym, audio and video systems – embody their demand for recreation by the inhabitants of Mombasa.
Providing services at the moment is trying to conquer ever new heights. This nonstrange, since the number of organizations that are engaged in the business in a particular area, year after year, only increasing, and the buyer has to choose from. In the end, happy only those who really wants to recommend to clients a significant quality of care, moreover, in principle, a solid range of abilities, of which every visitor could find something to your liking. And while, of course, competitive prices.
