At a Marriott Hotel, if you book a “Senior Discounted Room” online, will you be asked for your ID at check-in?

Question by Pierre: At a Marriott Hotel, if you book a “Senior Discounted Room” online, will you be asked for your ID at check-in?
Will a Marriott employee ask for an ID upon check-in if you reserve your room online with the “Senior Discount?”

My dad is 51 and wants to know if he will be asked for his ID. For the Downtown Toronto Courtyard, the non-Senior Discount price of the room is &170, while the Senior Price is $ 110.

Do you have any past experiences?

Best answer:

Answer by JazzSinger
I have booked discount rates before that required an ID, but I have never been asked or one. I do always have that ID on me, just in case the person at the front desk is being particularly conscientious. Another thing to look at is the rules for the senior rate. You said that your dad is 51. That’s on the young side for the senior rate. You might want to make sure that he does, in fact, qualify for that rate.

Global Travel and Leisure Industry Drive Home Substantial Revenues, as Tourism Turns Into a Cultural Norm, According to New Report by Global Industry Analysts, Inc.

San Jose, California (PRWEB) January 30, 2012

Follow us on LinkedIn ? The fortunes in the outbound travel & leisure segment and to a certain extent, the trends in the inbound travel are very much dependent on a sound economy. Bleak economic prospects, lack of job security, low wage growth, less disposable income, high interest rates, fiscal tightening and others are all major factors that dampen the spirits and deter the traveller, thereby blocking the conduits through which money flows into the travel and tourism market. Over the coming years, travel and leisure industry outlook appears promising with rise in consumer spending on travel and tourism for both holiday and business trips. Although the global economic downturn in 2009 took a heavy toll on the travel sector world over, with drop in number of international arrivals and global outbound sales, the industry was quick to reverse the trend and get back on track in 2010. There was a marked improvement in international arrivals statistics, primarily owing to the impressive performance by developing regions such as Asia-Pacific and South America. The online travel market stayed insulated from the economic downturn, exhibiting consistent rise in sales and profitability. The vacation rental sector also defied all odds by staying afloat in the recessionary phase, mainly due to its widespread presence across the internet, thereby providing easy accessibility and affordability.

A segment that has witnessed remarkable growth in recent times is the short trips category, with low cost airlines driving up overall demand. Around 50% of outbound travel is made by air, and slashes in airlines fare across the world have had a discernible positive effect on the volume of traffic in the travel sector. In addition, with increasing number of women taking to travel for both business and leisure, the travel and leisure sector is poised for growth not just in terms of revenue, but also with respect to development of expensive and convenient women-friendly facilities. A majority of the women consumers travel abroad for business, and often combines business travels and leisure trips. Taking this into account, business hotels have improved their offerings to include women friendly services such as spas, salons, childcare facilities, and boutiques.

Asia is emerging as a significant market for both inbound and outbound tourism traffic, with China, India, and South Korea representing three major Asian destinations for majority of outbound travel. In the fray are other exotic regions outsides Asia including Mexico, Brazil, Spain, Italy, Russia, and Norway. Unconventional or ?second-layer? vacations spots have taken over popularity of conventional destinations. Additionally, special attractions such as the multi-generational family trips and epicurean journeys are expected to become a vibrant trend in the near future. Overtaking Spain, China became the third leading nation to be most visited, while luxury cruises in Egypt, Zimbabwe and India attracted several foreign tourists.

Article by Hotel StudioEstique

More and more people are on the look-out for the best hotel deals in order to take short breaks with family and loved ones to get away from the stress and strain of modern life. It goes without saying that such travellers would want to book hotel rooms online in order to save time and avoid the hassle of unnecessary trips to travel agencies or phone calls to the hotel.

In fact, the days of going to a travel agent or physically visiting a hotel are becoming rare. Indeed it is far more convenient and cost effective to compare room rates of different hotels online and then choose the best option available. All this can be comfortably done from the comfort of one’s home. Travel research is increasingly being done on the Internet. A majority of leisure and business travellers use search engines to begin their travel planning that includes identifying the best hotel deals and booking a hotel online. Estimates suggest that more than one third of global travel is likely to be booked online by the year 2013. Another emerging trend is that online hotel reservations are not just done from personal computers but also from mobile phones.

Every hotel wants business to grow and beat the competition. With travellers becoming increasingly familiar with the intricacies of booking a hotel online, it becomes vital that hotel websites are strengthened by sophisticated, easy-to-use hotel reservation systems. Booking services providers are working to offer the most user friendly reservation tools to guarantee better services and convenience to the traveller.

Online hotel booking is beneficial not only for the customers but also for hotels, as it helps them to reduce operation and infrastructure cost considerably. thank 4 any info (if your wondering why i need this is because im planning to do a program on a hotel and i wanna get a good overview of how stuff works)

Best answer:

Answer by Larry V
Okay, here’s how it works.

There are (at least) two ways one can end up with a hotel room. The first is that hours/days/weeks/months in advance, one contacts the hotel (either via internet, phone call, or visit), and asks them to save one or more rooms, at a maximum price. This is called a reservation… they are “reserving” a room for you.
Often a hotel may ask for a deposit – some money, or a credit card number – that will be used as a “down payment” for the room. This shows good faith by the requester that they will show up and make use of the room. In return, the hotel provides a reference or reservation number that is tied to the request. Any changes in arrival day or time could be provided using the number (though if the hotel isn’t too big, a person can usually just call and talk to them about it if the number was lost). The other way a person might get a room is to show up the day the room is needed and ask for a room.

In either case, a room may or may not be available, and the requestor would have to be turned away or at least put on a waiting list with no guarantee of getting a room. Also, in other case, a requester might request more than one room – in fact, they might request a block of rooms, in the case of getting set for a conference, wedding, etc. In that case, if they are pretty certain about the number, they might try to negotiate a discount if the rooms are prepaid.

On the day of the reservation is when the check in occurs. This is the time that the people (for whom the reservation is made) arrive. They stop at the front desk, pick up a key and directions to the room, provide a credit card number (if not already provided), pick up messages (if any have been left), etc.

On the day the guest will be departing is when the check out occurs. This is the time they return the room key, sign off on the charges that have accumulated (room, taxes, room service, video on demand, in-room mini-bar, other services), and take their bags and leave.

Some hotels provide a service where the guest can check out from their rooms, via an in-room video based check out process, allowing a guest to come or go as they please.

Note there are generally check in and check out time ranges. The check in time allows the previous guest to get out of the room and the hotel staff to get in and clean up the room. So there is generally a late afternoon check in time. Also, the check out time is generally in the morning. If someone checks out too late in the day, they generally get charged for another day in the hotel, to cover the costs of having to hurry as well as the impact of inconveniencing the guest who is next in the room.

The site will also be running a series of articles on pet traveling such as its current offering entitled 10 things you should not do when traveling with pets!

Due to the high costs of overnight animal boarding and an increase in the number of pet-friendly hotels and travel destinations, more people will be bringing their pets along on their winter vacations than ever before. While traveling with pets can be a wonderful experience for both pet owners and their animals, there are several precautions that should be taken to ensure the safety, health and well-being of your animals while traveling domestically or abroad. The contributing travel writers and niche travel experts at Travelhoppers.com have compiled the following five helpful tips for planning safe pet-friendly travels, from their personal experiences and important lessons learned along the way:

1. Avoid ?Pop-Up? Pet Carriers: One common mistake that travelers make when purchasing their animal carriers before a trip, is falling for the ?deal? and purchasing the super affordable ?pop-up? pet carriers that are advertised as being ultra-lightweight and compact as they can be easily folded and tucked away at the end of the day. While it?s true that these carriers are more affordable than traditional plastic crates, carriers and kennels, they are in actuality a real safety hazard for animals both large and small. What the advertisers DON?T tell you, is that these budget pop-up carriers are extremely flimsy, nearly impossible to carry and can collapse while your animal is inside of them at the drop of a dime. If you are planning to travel with pets, spend a little more money to purchase a durable kennel (preferably made of water-resistant plastic) with wire doors and windows for extra security and ventilation. Not only are these plastic kennels more easy to clean and maintain, but they will not collapse when luggage slightly shifts in your car or onboard a plane, they have carry handles for easy transport, they come in all sizes and will be a life-long investment that is well-worth the extra money spent. If traveling by plane, call the airline in advance to request their animal crate requirements and specifications to ensure you?ll have no difficulties boarding your animal.

2. Pack A Pet First-Aid Kit/Travel Bag: Prior to departing on a trip with your pet, preparation is key. Pack a separate bag for your pet that contains drinking water, enough food for several days, an extra leash, plastic bags to pick-up after your pet, cleaning supplies, first aid kit and one or two of your animal?s favorite toys from home. Don?t assume that the destination you?re visiting will have a pet supply store within a short driving distance or will have your pet?s specific food brand in stock, so pack these ?travel essentials? for your pet just in case. Some important things to have on hand for first aid kit supplies include clean towels and cloths, nonstick bandages, adhesive tape, gauze and clean water.

3. Obtain Veterinarian Records In Advance: Ask your veterinarian for copies of your pet?s medical records and proof of vaccinations (especially a valid rabies certificate) that you can keep close on hand, should any emergencies arise while you?re away. You?ll want to call at least one month in advance to ensure your veterinarian has enough time to make these medical record copies for you. If traveling with an exotic animal, ask your veterinarian to provide your pet with an exam and health certificate and make sure you have the appropriate documentation in order to cross state or country lines with your animal.

4. Do Your Destination Homework: When traveling across state and country lines, it?s essential to have a valid rabies vaccine certificate on-hand. It?s also important to ensure your animal is in good health ? as many countries require a signed certificate of health and some will even require an automatic veterinary inspection for all pets crossing the border. Do your research before traveling with a pet abroad. Some countries quarantine pets (for days and even months) before allowing the animal into their country. Some cities, states and countries also have restrictions on the types of exotic animals you?re allowed to bring with you, so contact the individual destinations you?re planning to visit (or those you will be driving through) to ensure that you have the proper documentation for your pet as well as to learn more about their possible quarantine procedures, exotic animal restrictions, mandatory microchip policies and more. It?s also recommended to microchip your animal prior to your trip, to avoid losing your pet while traveling.

5. Research Animal Restrictions & Fees for Pet-Friendly Hotels: Many hotels advertise as being pet-friendly these days, however, that does not mean that all animals will be warmly welcomed upon their arrival. Before booking rooms at a hotel that claims to be ?pet-friendly,? call the hotel in advance to find out if they have specific animal restrictions, a maximum number of allowable pets per room and fees associated with pet stays. Additionally, have one pet-friendly hotel ?back-up? plan for each destination on your travel itinerary should any problems arise with your original hotel reservations or their pet policies upon arrival. If traveling across country and making nightly hotel reservations on a whim, one great resource to keep in your car is ?The AAA PetBook? ? which is an on-the-road-guide for traveling with pets that has more than 13,000 pet-friendly hotels and campground selections by destination location across North America.
