Recently, in August of 2009, I took my family to the state of my birth, Hawaii. Mostly we stayed with and visited my parents who live in Kona on the Big Island but we definatley wanted to head out to view the volcanic eruption at night. This is quite a long day trip from Kona, especially with small children in tow, so we decided to spend the night in Hilo and took a chance on an older hotel called Hilo Seaside that offered an incredible room rate of around $70. It was a very comfortable and quaint stay reminiscent of my memories of Old Hawaii from when I was a little girl. What an experience that evening was for both me and my two little girls! A glimpse into Mommy’s mind’s eye of quaint hotels in Old Hawaii combined with the excitement of viewing both the Milky Way and the orange glows of lava flowing into the surf at night.
